The story behind the name: Bee HURO Honey

With connections spanning Hungary, Transylvania, and Western Romania, our founder Eniko Balla discusses her inspiration for Bee HURO Honey.

Spending much of her childhood in and around rural Hungary, Transylvania, and Western Romania, our founder Eniko grew a fond love for nature and the produce of her local environment from an early age.

Many sunny summers were spent harvesting grapes and preparing wine, growing plentiful fruits, vegetables, and selling wildflowers in the fields where her grandparents lived. Escaping the city life to spend time in nature has always played a part in Eniko’s upbringing, something that has continued into adulthood, and her nine years in the UK living by the abundant Sussex coast.
It’s important to us that our honey has authentic and trusted origins connected to the heritage of the land it comes from. Our name HURO refers to “Hungary” and “Romania”, marking its geographical significance to Europe, including the pastoral fields of Transylvania. Bringing high-quality HURO honey to the UK is a way of sharing the rich natural resources of rural Europe into new commercial markets.

Eniko’s love of ethically and sustainably produced honey has roots in community and family, as well as friends and neighbours.

Our first independent beekeeper has been supplying Eniko’s family since the 80’s, a lasting relationship that has shaped a long standing love for honey and it’s different uses in health, food, and cosmetics.

Every detail of the honey sale and production is taken into account and discussed in depth with his three children, a close and trusted relationship which has been developed over many years. Having a direct connection to our beekeepers and their families gives us a unique insight into the impact that the ethical sale of honey can have for local beekeepers and small businesses, something we hope to champion across UK waters.

We look to connect our clients with our HURO history and heritage, all while sharing the benefits of raw acacia honey with new communities, in the UK and beyond. Get in touch to place your order!
